ABOUT US…

Oldham Hall has always been synonymous with the Anglo-Chinese School.   When Reverend William Fitzjames Oldham founded the Anglo-Chinese School and the Boarding School on 1st March 1886 at 70 Amoy Street, he began a tradition of education based on Christian principles as embodied in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

"Where are you now, Guys?"

Oldham Hall has been re-sited numerous times, from Amoy Street to Coleman Street, to Mount Sophia, to Barker Road (the site of the present ACS Barker Road quadrangle) and finally Asimont Lane, a stone’s throw from her last site and adjacent to both the school and Barker Road Methodist Church.    The present Oldham Hall was completed in June 1985.   Today, Oldham Hall has a student population of about 122 boys coming from all parts of the world; Malaysia, Indonesia, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Hong Kong PRC, Brunei, China, Thailand, India, Pakistan, USA, United Kingdom and Singapore.

Boys living in Oldham Hall always feel a sense of belonging to a continually growing family, and parents are always assured that, though their sons are far from home and its influences, they are nevertheless cared for and looked after as if in their own family.

A team of caring and dedicated staff, led by the Master, Senior Housemistress, Chaplain and Housemasters, provide round-the-clock supervision.   Regular compulsory study-hours in the air-conditioned study halls are instituted under the supervision of the Housemasters-on-Duty and tutorials are arranged for the boys when necessary.

Pocket money for boys below Secondary Four is issued by the Senior Housemistress who also handles all other disbursements from the boys’ personal accounts.

Boys from Secondary Four and above are allowed to handle their own personal accounts with the consent of their parents.    Boarding fees are charged on a semester basis, payable in advance, in January and early July each year.

OLDHAM HALL CREED

I will exercise that my body may be strong.

I will think carefully that my mind might be wise.

I will do good each day so that my heart may be true.

I will ask God to help me to be the kind of young man

He wants me to be;

An honour to my parents,

A helper to my companion,

A man who all men may honour and trust.

Boys who are not studying in the adjacent Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) will find the transport arrangements extremely convenient to their respective schools.

The facilities provided at Oldham Hall are extensive.     Full board, laundry and food (three meals per day) are provided.    Boys in Oldham Hall also benefit from a wide range of recreational facilities that include an Olympic-size swimming pool, cricket, soccer, badminton, touch-rugby, table-tennis, basketball and volley-ball courts, fitness circuit, a weight’s training room (including an Abflex) and a photography club (including a dark room).   An air-conditioned computer club, a well-stocked games club, music room, a television lounge and a Chapel add to the wide-ranging facilities.   Sunday school and worship services are available in the adjacent Barker Road Methodist Church.

Because Oldham Hall is affiliated with the Methodist Church and operates within the context of a Christian Community,   Oldham Hall offers its boarders the opportunity to discover themselves through spiritual as well as intellectual growth.   All religious beliefs are accepted; Chapel services, although Christian, are nonproselytizing.

As part of the Oldham Hall family, we aim to make and maintain the boarding school as an ideal home for boys during the most important period of their lives - their school days; catering specifically for their educational, spiritual, social and physical development.

As competition for places will be very keen, we would like to encourage you to book a place as soon as possible.

At Oldham Hall, we aim to make the days of our boys the happiest times of their lives, believing that the world should be a place to live in harmony, TOGETHER IN UNITY!
